FABRICATE
From Production to Expression
A workshop on digital design methods & production technique by using Rhinoceros
13-29 October 2008
Instructors:
Ting-Ting Zhang & William Tan
1) To introduce digital generative design and production methodology to its participants.
2) To exploring the possibilities and capacity of generative design, CNC fabrication and the coupling of these two technologies.
3) Students will be ‘designing through making’ – a methodology that focuses on the expression of form, its function and its structural composition all at once.

Introduction
Our group chose the Torus model for production because its façade and design is interesting. Its structure gave lots of opportunity for interior spaces. We have learnt that buildings now can never just be shaped in rectangular or square. Given the technology and skills people have now, design can be stretched further with unique and cool art work of architecture.
This workshop teaches us on how to produce design in the matter of how the materials join each other and how the exposure of structure and joints become part of the beauty of architecture.
Tasks were distributed evenly among the eight of us in group 7. Some who are better in rendering will be in charge of doing rendering. Those who are good in designing layout for panels will then design layout of presentation. Everyone in the team also used Rhino software to construct the model out for production of laser cutting model. This workshop was a very good experience for all of us as we got to learn Rhino to further create designs that are unique with not much limitation.
